Community Emergency Response Team Attention
Slate Belt citizens: The Slate Belt Council of Governments (COG) is
organizing a regional CERT team to help serve the area in the event of
a major emergency or disaster. CERT, a government sanctioned program, trains
able citizens in basic emergency response skills such as light search and
rescue, fire suppression, basic first-aid, traffic control, and other basic
emergency skills. Once trained, each CERT member is provided with basic
emergency equipment and may be called upon to assist existing emergency
personnel in the event of a large emergency or disaster. In the past, CERT
teams in other parts of the country have aided emergency personnel in floods,
hurricanes, wildfires, terrorist attacks, building collapses, traffic accidents,
missing person cases, and other emergencies. By becoming a certified CERT
member, you give emergency services in your area a vital extra option to
call upon in extraordinary circumstances. In addition, you will become
better prepared to aid your loved ones, neighbors, or fellow workers and
citizens in the event of an emergency where professional emergency assistance
is not immediately available.
C.E.R.T. Sponsorship In order to be successful and offer the most to Slate Belt citizens, the C.E.R.T. program needs corporate sponsorship. This sponsorship not only entails possible financial donations, which go towards the C.E.R.T. team’s equipment, but also informing and recruiting willing and able employees to undergo C.E.R.T. training. This is a great opportunity for Slate Belt businesses, as they would not only be providing their communities with a tremendous public service, but they are also better equipping their employees with valuable emergency knowledge and skills that might someday need to be utilized at the workplace. Potential sponsors may acquire more information and sign up at Slate Belt Council of Governments web page, www.slatebeltcog.org or by calling the Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce at 610-863-0315. Slate
