BANGOR AREA RECREATION COMMITTEE JOB DESCRIPTION Accountable to: Bangor Area Recreation Committee (operating under the COG) Supervises: part time, seasonal and contractual employees, instructors and volunteers Primary Objective of the Position: A part-time position that will be responsible for the organization and management of a variety of recreational programs and activities at indoor and outdoor recreation facilities throughout the Bangor School District area of the Slate Belt region. The position may include nighttime, weekend and holiday hours as necessary and may have the potential to become full-time employment. TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK Administration: · Manage and supervise all operations and activity as directed by the Board. · Investigate, acquire, administer, and monitor grants from public and private sources. · Manage the finances of the Board including the operating, program, and grants budgets. Process and account for all revenues and expenditures in compliance with Committee policy. · Assure adequate and appropriate record keeping and presentation of reports to the Committee as required. · Implement fundraising efforts to support the Commission and its activities. · Promote and inspire a cooperative working relationship with the Commission and participating municipalities, as well as other local, regional, state and federal government and voluntary agencies. · Recruit and recommend staff for hiring. Schedule, train and supervise all staff and volunteers. Assure that all staff and volunteers comply with all standard operating procedures and Board policies. · Attend meetings of the Committee, as requested. · Purchase needed supplies. · Other duties as assigned. Programming: · Develop, administer, supervise and evaluate a broad program of recreation activities for all age groups and interests respective of the resources and needs of the residents of the Participating Municipalities and school district. (Also for residents outside of the Participating Municipalities boundaries provided that such programming is of primary benefit to residents of the Participating Municipalities) · Evaluate existing and future programs and recommend changes and/or improvements · Contract with outside agencies and individuals, as necessary, to provide program instruction. · Contract with outside agencies for the use of their facilities for Board programs, when necessary. · Encourage optimum use of all parks and facilities within the Bangor region · Other duties as assigned. Maintenance: · Assure proper upkeep, maintenance and appearance of the parks, facilities and grounds assigning tasks to other staff as appropriate and completing the work himself/herself as necessary. · Coordinate maintenance work with the departments of the Participating Municipalities if necessary. The commission is offering a part-time, currently temporary position that will be responsible for the organization and management of a variety of recreational programs and activities at indoor and outdoor recreation facilities throughout the Bangor School District of the Slate Belt region. The Successful Candidate will be responsible for: Qualifications for Candidate: Knowledge of: Ø Recreation administration and/or programming Ø grants Ø Public relations Skills required: Ø Strong oral and written communication, Ø Creative thinking, Ø Initiative, Ø Organization/Management/planning Ø Must be able to work independently and be a self starter!!* Experience working with local government officials preferred. BS in Recreation Management or similar preferred. An hourly wage rate of $12 to $15 is available, commensurate with experience, for an average of 12 to 15 hours per week. See www.slatebeltcog.org for details The Bangor Area Recreation Committee is being created as a committee under the Slate Belt Council of Governments to plan and implement recreation programs, partnership-building and the like for the participating municipalities in the Bangor region. The committee was created by virtue of a one-year agreement which may be amended and renewed annually. The Commission was created with assistance of a peer grant from PA DCNR.
The Successful Candidate will work on the Bangor Area Super Summer Program, developing additional programs and special events, grants, fundraising and public relations. Strong communication, organization, creative, programming skills are required. Must be a self starter and independent. BS in pertinent field and experience working with local government officials preferred. Hourly rate of $12-15.
